A police guard posted at Muslim Commercial Bank Yousuf Plaza branch taking swift action foiled a robbery attempt near the bank and shot dead two armed bandits on Friday morning. According to reports, one Saleem drew Rs 23,000 from his account and soon as he came out of the bank, the two robbers on a bike intercepted him and tried to snatch the amount at gunpoint.

When the man started shouting for help, the police guard Irfan Shahzad challenged the robbers who opened fire on him. The police guard also retaliated injuring both the robbers who later died at the hospital.

The snatched amount, motorcycle KCC-7895 Honda 125 and a TT pistol were recovered from the robbers.

The CCPO has announced promotion to next grade along with cash prize of Rs 5,000 besides Rs 3,000 by the bank staff for the police guard.

Meanwhile, another attempt of robbery at UBL Haqqani Chowk branch in the jurisdiction of Mithadar police station Karachi was foiled at 11:30 am on Friday.

The police report suggests six armed robbers riding a white car tried to commit robbery at the said branch. However, the security guards and a police constable Afzal Mehdi opened fire on the robbers injuring one of them. Confused with swift action, the robbers fled with their injured accomplice.

The police have started search of fleeing robbers.
